EPA approved "Super Bug" Killer safe enough to apply to children's toys

How Staphacide Works

The power inside Staphacide™ is SDC (Silver Dihydrogen Citrate). The SDC molecule attacks microbes in such a way that it is not only an effective disinfectant and deodorizer, it is also environmentally safe, and non-toxic to humans and pets. The Staphacide™ two pronged attack is as follows:

ATTACK MODE 1:  Interrupts cell metabolism

Unlike traditional antimicrobials, bacteria are actually attracted to SDC because they recognize citric acid as a food source. This “Trojan Horse” attack allows SDC to easily enter the microorganism through membrane transport proteins. Once inside the organism, SDC binds to DNA and intracellular proteins causing irreversible damage to the DNA and protein structure.

ATTACK MODE 2:  Disrupts transport functions in cell walls:

SDC can also act on an organism’s outer membrane.  Silver ions are highly attracted to sulfur-containing thiol groups found in metabolic and structural proteins bound to the membrane surface. SDC targets these critical proteins and destroys their structure. This disruption of the organisms membrane function and integrity, lyses the membrane and the organism dies.

These two mechanisms, alone or in combination make Staphacide™ a powerful antimicrobial while mitigating microbial reistance. The Staphacide™ methods of attack makes it ideal for immediate kill as well as long term prevention.

SDC...The power inside Staphacide™

SDC (silver dihydrogen citrate):

This patented new molecule is the first new antimicrobial in decades. SDC is an electrolytically generated source of stabilized ionic silver that is non-toxic, non-caustic, colorless, odorless, tasteless and does not produce toxic fumes.  Traditional silver-based disinfectants have very short shelf lives - from hours to days. SDC is a stabilized silver ion complex with a shelf life of several years. The unique bond of the silver ion in SDC allows the silver ion to remain in solution while at the same time making it more bio-available for antimicrobial action. While SDC is highly toxic to bacteria, fungus and virus it is non-toxic to humans and animals.

Based on the EPA toxicity categorization of antimicrobial products that ranges from Category I (high toxicity) down to Category IV, at use dilutions, SDC is rated in the lowest toxicity category, IV, while traditional disinfectants fall into Categories I and II.
